How to Find Your Perfect Everyday Carry Wallet

Ready to trade up to a wallet that will last a lifetime? We have some advice for you.

A man’s wallet is such an essential piece of everyday carry gear that its design has gone largely unchanged for a couple hundred years. But in the past 10 years or so, the explosion of interest in the EDC lifestyle has opened up possibilities for a new wave of wallets: Some smaller, some slimmer, but all designed with an aesthetic that blends practicality and good looks.

So if you’re still carrying around an old department store billfold, there’s never been a better time to upgrade to a “heritage quality” wallet that will last your lifetime.

In addition to our lineup of American-made everyday carry bags and accessories, we have put a lot of time and effort into making the best American-made leather wallets in three different styles. Each one is built to suit a certain sort of guy — and this guide will help you navigate exactly which one is right for you.

Option One: The Classic Billfold

The most traditional choice for a man’s wallet is a billfold: A simple two- or three-fold pouch with room for cards and cash. It’s been the wallet style of choice for the past hundred years or so, and comes in a full range of materials (each with different weight, texture, and overall longevity).

Our Classic Billfold takes this style of wallet and breaks it down to the essentials. Full-grain pull-up leather is what makes it stand out, giving the best combination of a soft feel, long-term durability, and the ability to take on a beautiful patina over time.

This type of wallet is best for the guy who carries plenty of cards and cash, as it gives room to store up to 12 cards (and your bills) comfortably without feeling stretched out and bulky.

Option Two: The Slim Wallet

Of course the trouble with the traditional billfold wallet is the George Costanza problem: When your wallet’s big enough to hold everything, you might forget that it’s not supposed to hold every. single. thing.

For guys that are prone to giving themselves a back-breaking brick of a wallet, changing to a slim wallet is the best way to go.

Don’t get us wrong: We know the process of trimming down your beloved receipt and movie rental card collection can be emotionally draining. But once you’ve slimmed your selection down to a half dozen cards and a few bills of cash, your wallet will smoothly fit in your front pocket or jacket pocket for easy everyday carry.

Option Three: The Money Clip Wallet

Classic billfold feel too bulky for you? Slim Wallet too small for your wads of cash? Then take the Goldilocks approach, and find the wallet that’s juuuust right: Our Money Clip Wallet. Taking a minimalist approach to the bifold wallet style, the Money Clip Wallet lies somewhere between the thickness of our Slim Wallet and Classic Billfold.

But the real trick is its specially-manufactured spring money clip. Small but mighty, this spring holds your bills in place without adding extra leather that could bulk up the wallet’s overall size. That way, you can comfortably carry somewhere between 9 and 12 cards and all of your cash.
